Expanded Opportunities (Subclass 485): Two-Year Second PHEW Visa Now Available for Hobart Graduates

The Department of Home Affairs has updated procedural instructions for the Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa, introducing a significant enhancement for graduates based in Hobart and surrounding postcodes.

Updates for Hobart graduates under the Second PHEW stream:

Key Changes:

  • Higher education graduates who meet the Second PHEW stream requirements and have studied and resided in Hobart postcodes are now eligible for a two-year visa.
  • Previously, eligible graduates from these areas were limited to a one-year visa under the Second PHEW stream.

Implications for Graduates:

  • Provides extended post-study work experience, supporting career development.
  • Encourages regional workforce participation and retention of skilled graduates in Tasmania.

Procedural Guidance:

  • Updated Subclass 485 procedural instructions are available on LEGENDcom.
  • Changes covering the period from 1 July 2024 onwards are currently undergoing the Department’s required secondary clearances under the Policy and Procedure Control Framework.
