Migration Amendment (Combatting Migrant Exploitation) Bill 2025: Proposed Approved Work Sponsor Register

The Migration Amendment (Combatting Migrant Exploitation) Bill 2025 proposes to amend the Migration Act 1958 to establish a public register of approved work sponsors, promoting transparency in skilled worker sponsorship.

The Bill allows the Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs to publish information about approved work sponsors on the Department’s website.

The register may include:

  • Type of approved work sponsor.
  • Name of the sponsor.
  • Australian Business Number (ABN) and associated postcode.
  • Number of nominations made by the sponsor.
  • Occupations covered under the sponsor’s nominations.

The register will not include personal identifiers, in compliance with the Privacy Act 1988.

The Bill was introduced and read a first time, with the second reading moved on 6 November 2025.
